Our Story

Set on the bubbling upper reaches of the River Teign, Gidleigh Park sits on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, wrapped in 107 acres of gardens and woodland. A Tudor-style country house with Michelin-starred dining at its heart, it’s a place to disconnect from the daily and settle into nature’s calm.

Our History

Gidleigh’s story stretches back centuries, from the Prouz family (from the time of William the Conqueror) to the estate’s major rebuild in 1925, when Charles Harold Campbell McIlwraith commissioned architect Stanley Philpot to reimagine the house. It became a hotel in 1955, then was lovingly restored and elevated further under Andrew and Christina Brownsword’s ownership, including a full refurbishment in 2007.
